I’m Eva, the designer and founder of Nou Moscada. I live here in Nashville, TN with my husband (and business partner) and our two dachshunds, Odie and Oscar. We love living in Tennessee – being able to drive out of the city and see open sky and green makes life so much better. I am terribly out of touch with pop culture and current events; I am a creature of habit and find myself watching the same familiar shows and listening to the same music out of comfort. I’ve probably seen The Office through from start to finish over ten times, I shamelessly love Grey’s Anatomy, and we don’t have cable so I don’t really know what else is out there. If you catch me with music on, it’s going to be Fleetwood Mac, Van Morrison, Journey, anything Motown, or….Keith Urban. There are some pretty embarrassing celebrity crushes I could tell you about – so if you ever visit our studio and see life-size posters of Keith Urban and Nicolas Cage in my office, I promise I’m not a teenage girl, and I don’t know how it happened. I have an incredible family that I wish lived closer by. They are all wonderfully smart – my dad, brother, and sister-in-law are doctors and my mom is one of the most creative people I know. They let me experiment and figure things out for myself, and their support is invaluable to me.
Work takes up almost all of my time, but I love it immensely and it doesn’t feel much like work. I do wish I had a bit more time to spend on eating healthy and getting outside more – new year’s resolution? I love junk food and could eat tacos every single day and never get sick of them. I don’t drink coffee but start pretty much every morning with a cold Diet Coke. My work habits tend to fluctuate – sometimes I love to get up early and work in the quiet, dark morning hours, other times I feel like my most creative self comes alive at 1am. I create huge messes when I’m in the middle of a project, but need extreme order and organization to get focused and start something new. I am constantly torn between my eclectic tendencies and desire for complete minimalism.
I studied Art History and Political Science in college and graduated with a liberal arts degree from Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL. That little beach town is one of my favorite places on earth – if you ever visit make sure you eat at Schmagel’s or The Bunnery! I love visiting fashionable cities like New York and Los Angeles, but find myself feeling overwhelmed and overstimulated if I’m there for too long. Something about the color and the polish and the expectations makes me a little crazy. At the root of it, I still feel like a bit of an outsider in this industry, and am most content when I’m here at home – in our big black warehouse on a quiet street with my favorite people and badly behaved dogs. I just really love my dogs.
